MO Yan,a well-known Chinese author,whose real name is Guan Moye,was born on February 17,1955 in Shandong province.
Born into a poor peasant family,he went through poverty and hunger in his boyhood and was forced to leave school to work at the age of 12,which have greatly influenced his later writing.
In 1986,he graduated from the PLA Art Academy and in 1991 got the Bachelor of Art Degree in literature in Beijing Normal University.
