I would say it depends on the motive. People should be
honest but lies should be allowed in particular situations.
For example, if my mom asks me does she looks old. I will tell her
she looks beautiful. Why would I hurt her feelings by saying,
"ya mom, you're looking pretty old"? It's all in the motive- my
motive is to encourage, not hurt people's feelings. In all, I
